Self-Confidence in Communication

Self-confidence in communication is shown in both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Confident communicators make use of a range of tools to establish points clearly and make their argument known. Develop self-confidence in communication by utilizing basic tools and practicing communication skills in range of settings.

Verbal Skills

Self-confident speakers work to communicate clearly and precisely. Words are enunciated and spoken with appropriate volume. Use of slang, whispering, or mumbling do not indicate confidence in communication.

Non-Verbal Skills

Perception of self-confidence is also judged by the physical mannerisms of a speaker. Self=confident communicators employ frequent eye contact, an open stance, and a firm handshake. These gestures, while seemingly small, go a long way to emphasize a person's comfort level and self-confidence.

Practice

Grow self-confidence in communication by practicing communication skills. Take advantage of different atmospheres such as crowds, quiet spaces, and small groups to develop a range of abilities. Consider joining programs that foster speaking skills. Toastmasters or communication courses both encourage members to gain self-confidence when speaking.
